    Voids/no data in 2D modelling

My ground model already has voids (no data) where the buildings are, because of this i get errors when trying to mesh because it can't find heights everywhere.
I assume this problem will be solved when i model the buildings as voids since it will not try to create a 2D zone there. Is there an easy way to let infoworks know that the no data shapes already are the voids?
    Thanks in advance.

Where the no data gaps are small, the meshing process will ignore them and the mesh element elevation taken from the available data for that mesh element. Where the gaps are greater than the mesh element size then the software will provide an error. The software will not automatically detect these as void areas.
