    updating Infowater model

    What are the sets to update an existing infoWater model's pipes. When I go through gateway, and create new pipes, delete old pipes and cleanup orphan pipe and nodes, I get this error below

    It was nice to talk to you today to answer your questions directly. I will post a response here as well for the benefit of other users in the forum:

    When you get a disconnected error, it means that generally the model could not satisfy demands for a given region. If this occurred after an update then likely there are areas not properly connected, or pipes or nodes that are orphans (missing to and from node information) that occurred during the update.

    If you use the Disconnected_Nodes selection set you can typically quickly identify what was causing the disconnection and resolve it.

    As far as procedures for updating, that tends to be very model specific but we can point out a few guidelines:

    1) Updates always should include checks of system geometry and connectivity to make sure everything imported is working and connected as it should be. Using the Network review tools under the InfoWater-> Utility-> Network review/fix menu such as nodes in close proximity, Trace network, pipe split candidates, duplicate pipes, diameter discrepancies as well as checks for orphan nodes and pipes at a minimum are often good QA/QC tools of the GIS data to make sure the model will still run. All element connectivity information must be correct if the model is to simulate actual system behavior properly. Running checks is essential to make sure it is after any update.
    2) Key hydraulic information such as node elevation and pipe roughness is often not included in the GIS and must be added for new elements by the modeler. The model will not run without this information. The user should verify all key information needed is added.
    3) Key information for queries used in facility sets - This may also not be in the GIS but is essential to have the elements always show up properly when switching scenarios. This may include year installation, year retire, or other field used by the model to indicate which elements should be active in any scenario. this is highly model specific but should be checked.
    4) lastly each user should consider running at least some type of validation checks on the model after an update to make sure it is still operating as expected and the update did not cause any unexpected issues. Re-Running conditions used in the last calibration of the model can often be helpful if comparison files are already created and can be used for the comparison.
