We are posting this as it came up recently in a support case and may assist other users in the future.

Models in H2ONet may at times be correctly scaled, but may not be in the correct spatial projection so that background layers such as imagery can be added behind the model and show up correctly. We recently had a user request suggestions for how they could translate the model element coordinates so they fell in the correct location when background layers were added. Essentially, this was almost a manual re-projection of the data so that it would fall in the correct spatial projection.

While the user may simply open the database tables and manually adjust the coordinate values to match the correct location, it is often easier to use AutoCAD to translate the elements, but this involves a few key steps to do correctly. This post describes the steps necessary to complete this type of model coordinate X-Y translation to get it to overlay with spatially correct background layers.

NOTE: Before you begin it is recommended to save the model in case anything goes wrong you can close without saving.

  • Step 1: Unlock the model layers in the Layer Properties for elements so that the model elements can be moved:

  • Step 2: Draw a reference line from the start and ending points of the move. Make sure this line is snapped to the points desired to be moved. You may need to uncheck the snap to grid feature to properly snap to the reference line.

  • Step 3: Initiate the Move Command.
    • Select all model elements to be moved
    • Make sure the reference line is not selected
    • As the first point of displacement select the start of the reference line
    • As the second point of displacement select the end of the reference line

    • NOTE: If any scaling of model elements are necessary to match background layers this can also be completed at this time
    • Verify all elements are moved as desired. If necessary, make further adjustments until all model elements are where they are desired to be. Once satisfied, proceed to the next step:

  • Step 4: Update the DB to match the MAP
    • Run for both nodes and links. You will have to select all of the elements as part of the Node and link update process.

  • Step 5: Make sure to relock all the model layers

  • Step 6: Final Checks
    • Once completed check the coordinates of one or more points compared to what is expected. Run the model to verify no issues occurred. Contact Technical support if you have issues
    • It is recommended you save the model as a new name at the end so you always have a backup before the changes are made.
