How many raingauges do you need to calibrate a sewer model ?

    Hello All,

I've been asked "how many rain gauges" are required to provide enough data for accurate calibration of a collection system (sewer/foul) model. With the accessibility of Met Offic radar rainfall, relatively cheap "personal" radar units, and authority owned and placed gauges I'm interested to see what people are doing around the world. Is it the same, or are we all doing something different ?

    Thanks,
    Ann

    Hi Ann,

For UK catchments, I generally use the WaPUG CoP typical density of 1 + 1 per 2km2 for a catchment of average topography.
