Lightbulb Areal Reduction Factor / Rainfall Smoothing

    Afternoon,

I am currently running a model with a TSR dataset created from historic rainfall data from a nearby RG. I've been looking into the ARF within the help menu / Innovyze with regards to the application of ARF with TSR events? All the available guidance states that the ARF is to be applied to design rainfall only.

Surely the same principle of not having a peak rainfall event fall over the whole catchment for the exact same time period applies to TSR rainfall events as well as design rainfall? How an ARF would be applied for each individual TSR event I'm not sure due to the differing storm durations.

Does anyone have any experience of using the ARF for TSR rainfall?

    Thanks.

We have puzzled over this one as well
Simplistically I would maintain that totals should be reduced for larger catchments as per design storms, but then, I'm not a rainfall expert
